Plane

Graz has a small airport ("GRZ") which is served frequently by Lufthansa, Austrian, InterSky, Welcome Air from/to: Vienna, Frankfurt, Munich, Düsseldorf, Stuttgart, Hannover, Göteborg, Friedrichshaven, Berlin, ... . Graz airport is also served by RyanAir from London Stansted.
The following web-page www.billiger-reisen.de provides an excellent overview of the many low-cost carriers available - simply click the red "Billig-Airlines" link in the headline and then click the map in the center of the page. And www.checkfelix.at searches more than 170 websites of airline and travel agencies to provide you with a list of possible flights sorted by price.
The conference place and the hotels can be reached from Graz airport by public transportation (see also the public transportation section later on this page) or by taxi (appr. 20 €). The taxi rank is right outside the passenger terminal, right next to the arrival area. If you need a taxi on other occasions, the most common numbers are +43 316 878, +43 316 889 or +43 316 2801.

Train

The easiest way to find train connections to Graz ("Graz Hbf") is to use the travel planner of either the ÖBB (Austrian railway) or the German railway - both also have english versions (ÖBB-english, DB-english). Train tickets can be bought at machines at every train station in Austria and at counters at bigger stations. The ticket machines have German, English, and French interfaces and accept all cards that carry the Maestro symbol and usually also credit cards (VISA, MasterCard). A discount on the ticket price is available for children, for the holders of the reduction card ("VORTEILScard / BahnCard") and also with the "1-PLUS-Freizeit-Ticket für die 2.Klasse" for 2+ persons.

From Dagstuhl to Graz

If you are also attending the preceding Computational Geometry Seminar at Dagstuhl, this paragraph may be of interest for you. Here (in combination to the "How to Get to the Schloss Dagstuhl"-page) you can get the information to find the type of travel that suits you most. Basically there are three different ways to reach Graz from Dagstuhl:

1. by Train: For train stations nearest to Dagstuhl visit their page. Further information you'll find in the previous paragraph about reaching Graz by train.
2. by Plane: Possible airports to leave Dagstuhl are Frankfurt / Hahn, Frankfurt, or Stuttgart. Please have a look at the "Arrival by Plane"-webpage of Schloss Dagstuhl and the paragraph on this page about reaching Graz by plane
3. by Car: As per ViaMichelin the ride takes approximately 7 to 8 hours. (for example a route to our institute)

Public transportation

From the main train station ("Hauptbahnhof") you can take tram 6 towards "St. Peter (Schulzentrum)". The station (of tram 6) near Hotel Johannes (mainbuilding) is named "Steyrergasse" (<1 min walk), the station near Hotel Johannes Landhaus is named "Moserhofgasse/Messe" (<1 min walk) and the one near Hotel Merkur Graz Messe is named "St. Peter Friedhof" (3 min walk). Tram 6 is operated only until 19:42. After that you can take either tram 1 towards "Mariatrost" or tram 7 towards "St.Leonhard/LKH" (both until 23:19) to station "Jakominiplatz" and continue with Bus 36 (until 23:30) towards "Raaba/ÖBB" to the respective stations of tram 6.
From the airport you can take Bus 630 or Bus 631 in direction "Graz Hauptbahnhof" to station "Jakominiplatz" and then take tram 6 in direction "St. Peter (Schulzentrum)". Nearby the airport there is a trainstation "Graz Airport - Feldkirchen" ("Flughafen Graz-Feldkirchen") from where you can take a train to the main train station ("Hauptbahnhof"). For a train schedule look at section train or at the public transportation timetable at the airport web portal (see section plane).
For further information you can have a look at the webpage of the public transportation company Verbundlinie or GVB, where you can find a net plan and a list of all tram and bus routes and schedules.

Route to the Welcome Reception

To go to the Welcome Reception you can take tram 6 (as it is Sunday you have to look at the column "Sonn- und Feiertag" in the scheduls) towards "Hauptbahnhof" and leave at station "Hauptplatz-Congress" marked with [6] in the small map to the left (for the station nearest to your hotel please refer to the public transportation section). Towards south, past the fountain (F) is the entrance (E) to the "Rathaus" (city hall). Enter and go through the door to your right. The Welcome Reception takes place on the 2nd floor (that means that you have to go up 2 floors).
